Can Water beat Google Pixel and Pixel XL ?
Google Pixel and Pixel XL are the two phones in the market which only come with IP53 rating, it means they are not as water resistant as the other devices like iPhone 7 and Samsung Galaxy Note 7.
In spite of, new water resistance ordeal on the Galaxy Pixel and Pixel XL has hinted to the fact the devices might be able to last longer in water than what Google’s marketing suggests.
In a Google Pixel water test on YouTube, Harris Craycraft was able to put his new phone through the paces when it came to water resistance. Craycraft initially put the Pixel phone in a puddle of water, surviving which the phone entered a light shower from a hose on both the front and back sides. With the phone continuing to work properly, he submerged it into a bowl of water for 30 minutes with the screen on and a timer running.
After the 30 minutes were up, Craycraft was able to use the phone – claiming that every thing worked as it should. He added that the speakers and the charging port were working properly as well.
Another YouTuber, Johnathan Morrison, left his new Pixel smartphone in a bowl of water for an hour. After 60 minutes, he found the phone working properly – albeit the speakers were a little muffled. Morrison was hopeful that the speakers would get back to normal after the phone dried up a little. Of course this is not recommended for actual users who buy the Pixel smartphones, but the videos do make for an interesting watch.
Even while flagships from Samsung (Galaxy S7) and Apple (iPhone 7) carry high water resistant ratings of IP68 and IP67. Both of Google’s devices carry an IP53 rating – making them the least water resistant flagship of all. An IP53 rating means that the Pixel and the Pixel XL are resistant to dust, but only resistant to water at certain angles.
On the other hand, the Apple iPhone 7 with its IP67 rating allows it to be submersed for 30 minutes. Samsung Galaxy S7, however carries an IP68 rating, which means that it can be put under water (at a depth of up to 1.5m) for 30 minutes.
Pixel smartphones will start shipping in India starting tomorrow, with a starting price of Rs 57,000 for the Pixel and Rs 67,000 for the Pixel XL. Google Pixel, Pixel XL are the company’s first real smartphones, and are actually manufactured by HTC, but the branding is all Google.
The search giant says everything from hardware to software to components were chosen in-house by them, and not in collaboration with a partner like it was with the Nexus series.
